Cell phones and exclusivity deals...

Cell phones, you buy 'em and you either pay another $200 on top of what you're buying already or you sign an agreement to stay with your cell phone provider for 2 years if you stay with the provider. Everyone hates these agreements because they can't switch over to the newest Iphone or other hot gizmo as soon as it comes out. I for one, really don't care, granted:

  • You're not mandated to sign these agreements, just cough up the other $200 and you're fine.
  • You do get these cell phones pretty cheap with these discounts.

The part I do hate is that the phones don't interoperate well on other networks. So you can take your phone number, just not your phone. I'd like to see everyone come to a common working agreement, but if everyone for example uses GSM phone technology, Sprint who is CDMA is going to be pissed. Or vice versa. Not sure what is the right solution here.
